Your kitten's first days at home
The day your kitten comes home is exciting for you, but for the kitten it is a big change: new smells, new voices, no littermates. With a few simple steps the first days go smoothly.
A room of its own
For the first week prepare a quiet room with a litter tray, water and food bowls, a bed and a scratching post. Keep the litter tray away from the bowls. When the kitten moves around confidently, open up the rest of the house little by little.
Same food, same litter
Your kitten leaves us with a bag of the food it eats here, and we tell you which litter it uses. Do not change anything for at least two weeks: moving house is enough for a small tummy. If you want to switch food, do it over 7–10 days, mixing the two.
Patience with introductions
If you have other pets, let them meet through the door first, swapping blankets and scents, and only after a few days face to face, always with you there. With children: stroke the kitten sitting on the floor, never picking it up in a hurry.
Kitten-proof your home
Close washing machine and dryer doors, remove loose cables, rubber bands and toxic plants (lilies, poinsettias, oleander). Open windows need a safety net: kittens have no sense of height.
If you have any doubt, however small, write to us: we follow our kittens after adoption too, and we love receiving their photos.
